Springfield Mall COVID Test Site Overwhelmed by Promise of 15-Minute Results
A COVID-19 mobile testing site at the Springfield Mall that promises test results in 15 minutes was unprepared for a surge in customers in the days leading up to Thanksgiving and continues to see high volume, reports Dawn Timmeney for fox29.com.
John Brittingham, of Wallingford, was exposed to someone with COVID-19 right before Thanksgiving, so he was at the “15 to Know” site last week.
“Just want to make sure I’m in the clear. Just so I don’t give it to anyone else, so hopefully, in 14 minutes we’ll find out,” he says.
“15 to Know” has six regional testing sites, including the site at the Springfield Mall.
It’s been offering 15-minute rapid antigen testing for $75 and a more reliable rapid PCR test for $99 with results overnight. An online appointment is required.
The “15 to Know” site is now reporting overwhelming demand and result delays up to 72 hours or more. As of Thursday, Dec. 3, the next available testing appointments were Saturday afternoon. The $99 PCR test was out of stock.
One Facebook post reads, “They are well-intentioned, but they were not prepared for the surge they got, understandable.”
