Without its own health department, Delaware County’s limited staff has been stretched trying to provide COVID-19 testing in the county.

Now a new partnership with Delaware County Council and Trinity Health Mid-Atlantic means COVID-19 testing will be covered for six months, writes Kathleen E. Carey for the Daily Times.

Talks are also underway with other health systems about assisting with additional testing.

The test will be administered with the Delaware County Department of Intercommunity Health and the Chester County Health Department.

“As you know the county has been providing COVID testing for the last several months and recently we’ve reached out to all of three of the health care systems in the county and Trinity Health has agreed to provide additional COVID testing at the Mercy-Fitzgerald site in Darby,” said Lori Devlin, director of the county’s Intercommunity Health Department.

Tests will be provided on-site five days a week, testing up to 50 people a day beginning Nov. 30.

Devlin said it’s not a general testing site but will prioritize those who have a known exposure or are symptomatic.

A second site is planned by the end of November with a third site open by mid-January.
