County Works Out Deal for Yeadon Site as COVID-19 Vaccine Center and Future Health Department

A proposed community health center in Yeadon will also be a site for COVID-19 testing, flu vaccines, distribution of a COVID-19 vaccine when available and future site of the county’s new health department, writes Kathleen E. Carey for the Kathleen E. Carey for the Daily Times.

Delaware County Council approved a five-year lease agreement for the former Yeadon Shopping Center at 125 Chester Ave. last week.

Cost of the agreement is $185,400.

Right now the county can offer outdoor COVID1-9 testing through October but will need to move indoors when it gets colder. It hopes to be at the new health center by November.

The health center is strategically located in the eastern part of the county where the need is greatest.

“The property really does have a lot of advantages because it was a supermarket and it has a loading dock, obviously the room that we would need,” said Lori Devlin, director of the county’s Intercommunity Health Department. “But we would need to consider what type of security we would put in place because we will be storing vaccine there.”

Using CARES Act funds, the county can upgrade doors to the facility and create more intense security there.
