In a way, the new HBO series “Task” is a gift to Delaware County from its creator, Brad Ingelsby.
Along with plenty of action, and a strong cast led by Mark Ruffalo, the series is chock full of local and Delco references, writes Stephanie Farr for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
Farr estimates in her column that “Task” has more references to Delaware County, Philadelphia, and the surrounding suburbs than any movie or TV show ever made.
“Heck, before you’re even three minutes in , you see Mark Ruffalo driving along listening to a KYW Newsradio’s “Traffic on the Twos” report about a stolen car on the Blue Route just before Springfield,” she wrote.
Ingelsby is a Chester County native but has spent time in Delaware County and started inserting local references and scenes during “Mare of Easttown,” though that story took place in a fictional town.
This time, real town names are used, including Chester, Broomall, Marcus Hook and others, and there are local landmarks as well, like the Llanerch Diner in Upper Darby.
Even the characters have local ties. Task force members include a Delaware County detective and a Chester detective sergeant.
All that, and it’s a great show, too.
