The new HBO crime series ‘Task,” starring Mark Ruffalo with its Delco focus, is even better than the Emmy-winning “Mare of Easttown,” writes Greg MacArthur for Screen Rant.
Both series were created by Brad Ingelsby, an Archbishop Carroll High School and Villanova University graduate.
Ruffalo is FBI field agent Tom, stricken by a personal tragedy. He works on a missing child’s case with three inexperienced local law enforcement officers.
Counter to Ruffalo is Robby, played by Tom Pelphrey, a good guy making a dishonest living, who is also dealing with a personal tragedy.
Ingelsby wrote the series with help from police advisor David Obzud, connecting the stories of both grieving men.
The series has a True Detective tone about it, with hints of Sons of Anarchy, Ozark, The Last of Us, and The Bear.
“Combine this with thoughtful direction, engaging cinematography, immersive verisimilitude, future Emmy-nominated performances, and a truly epic music score by Dan Deacon, and you get one of, if not the, best drama series of 2025,” MacArthur wrote.
“Task proves that the HBO + Ingelsby formula is one of modern television’s safest bets. It’s hands down the best drama series of the 2026 Emmy pool and a can’t-miss show this September,” he wrote.
