Judy and Bill Strine Student Transition Center Opens at Elwyn

Bill and Judy Strine of Media and Elwyn President Charles McLister cut the ribbon Tuesday to dedicate the $7.35 million Judy and Bill Strine Student Transition Center for neurodiverse students at Elwyn's Middletown campus.

Elwyn officials dedicated a new student transition center for neurodiverse students Tuesday with a ribbon cutting at the $7.35 million facility, writes Pete Bannon for the Daily Times.

Elwyn provides support for those with an intellectual development disability, providing group homes, day programs and employment support; and child services, including early learning services; and adult behavioral health.

The Judy and Bill Strine Student Transition Centre is key to Elwyn’s 10-year $100 million master plan to transform its 250-acre Middletown campus, said Elwyn President and CEO Chuck McLister.

McLister said the new transition center will simulate jobs in food service, cashiering, technology, warehouse operations and retail.

It also will build independent living skills utilizing an apartment and rec room.

“It’s the latest in the evolution of our education complex. We’ve got two other buildings that support very young children in school. This is going to support kids 18-21 who are getting ready for the next phase in life,” McLister said. “This will help kids to be more independent and outside of the typical curriculum.”

The building is named for longtime Elwyn supporters Bill and Judy Strine, who donated $1 million to the project.
