Elwyn had a ribbon cutting March 3 opening a Young Adult Treatment Facility on its Media campus, writes Peg DeGrassa for the Daily Times.
The residential program, set to begin at the end of March, is the first of its kind in Delaware County designed to offer treatment services for those between 18 and 26 with autism, intellectual and developmental disabilities and other related behavioral health challenges.
The facility will welcome 16 adults to a 6- to 12-month program.
It will provide psychiatric rehabilitation with attention on critical skills such as financial planning, time management, cooking, cleaning, social skills, vocational skills, and emotional expression and coping skills.
It is part of Elwyn’s reimagining of its campus as it expands services and capabilities to address the growing needs of the community.
“It’s imperative that we support people with autism and intellectual and developmental disabilities at every stage of their life and equip with them the tools to be successful,” said Charles “Chuck” S. McLister, Elwyn’s president and CEO.
Monica Taylor, chair of Delaware County Council, welcomed the new facility as a way to fill a that has existed for years between child and adult residential services.
