Texas-based Snap Kitchen has closed its stores in the Philadelphia area, including ones in Villanova and one in Wayne, writes Kennedy Rose for Philadelphia Business Journal.

The chain is downsizing because of pandemic-related losses.

The stores officially closed Oct. 22 The company is now  focusing on direct-to-consumer service since many customers for its health-to-go pre-packaged food are at home.

“It appears, almost daily, increased aspects of our lives shift online — and it is our belief that this consumer behavior shift is here to stay,” said Snap Kitchen Marketing and Branding Director Emily Dunn. “As such, we are placing greater focus on our direct-to-consumer business to get us through and to the other side of this recession.”

There were 19 employees affected but they were offered jobs with a kitchen in Philadelphia where the Snap Kitchen meals are made.

“We are very grateful for the loyalty [Philadelphia] has shown us through the years, and we want all to know that we’re still working to be there for them,” Dunn wrote in an email.

Snap Kitchen has 63 stand-alone and Whole Foods market locations in Texas, Arkansas, Oklahoma and Louisiana.
