Chester and Delaware County SCORE – a nonprofit comprised of volunteers who provide free professional business counseling to entrepreneurs, small businesses, and nonprofits in Chester and Delaware counties – will host its seventh annual Small Business Achievement Awards Luncheon on Thursday at the Concord Country Club.

SubstiToothFairy, one of the fastest-growing temporary dental staffing agencies in the region, is one of five winners of SCORE’s Small Business Achievement Award.

SubstiToothFairy – which provides professional assistance to dentists with highly qualified dental hygienists and office receptionists – is based in Delaware, but its founder and owner, Seta Babayan-MacCrory, is a resident of Brookhaven.

Babayan-MacCrory likens her company to “a dental cupid” because it matches dental professionals with dentists needing immediate operational support. It has experienced phenomenal growth since its inception in 2008.

“We opened our firm in 2008, one of the worst financial times in our country,” she said. “Despite this ominous beginning, we have grown steadily during our first nine years. In our first operational year, we realized a 22 percent increase in sales, and by 2014, SubstiToothFairy’s income had grown over 100 percent.”

Prior to establishing SubstiToothFairy, Babayan-MacCrory was a practicing dental hygienist with limited professional business experience. When she decided to start her firm, she sought professional guidance from people with business backgrounds.

That’s where SCORE entered the picture.

Armed with experience in the business, SCORE provided the needed expertise to help her launch and grow SubstiToothFairy. Developing a practical business plan was the first step. SCORE counselor Jane Katsnelson met with Babayan-MacCrory on numerous occasions.

That assistance has helped make SubstiToothFairy a viable dental staffing agency.

In addition to the SubstiToothFairy, the four other winners of SCORE’s Small Business Achievement Award are:

  • VISTA Today – Exton
  • The Bacon Jams – West Chester
  • Elite Puréed Meals – Newtown Square
  • Brandywine Consignment Shop – Downingtown

The award winners have all benefited from SCORE’s counseling and mentoring services and, as a result, have enjoyed substantial growth and continued success.

“Small businesses are the lifeblood of our economy, and these recipients exemplify the success that can be achieved through creativity, planning, and determination,” said John Lippman, Co-Chairman of Chester and Delaware County SCORE. “On behalf of all of our volunteers, we at SCORE are proud to be a part of their success.”
