The Bullen Companies in Folcroft, manufacturer of hospital-grade disinfectants, increased production tenfold in March to meet coronavirus demand, writes Brian Myszkowski for the York Daily Record.

High demand is making it harder to get the raw materials to make the disinfectants. Bullen is still taking new orders, but cautions customers may need to be patient while production catches up.

“It is serious as a heart attack.  And the number one front line in defense for this entire thing, for the first time in history, is us,” said Mark Warner, national sales manager of The Bullen Company, referring to the cleaning industry.

Similar manufacturers are worrying about production shortages of pandemic-related supplies during a second wave.

As major producers struggle to keep up, smaller companies are filling the gap to help out.

Volunteer producers, professionals and amateurs, are also teaming up to make their own protective equipment, like sewing groups turning out face masks or 3D printers making face shields.

A Pennsylvania Manufacturing Call to Action Portal created in April is helping smooth out the supply chain problems from uneven business shutdowns during the pandemic.

Meanwhile, production levels remain higher than average while the demand is there.
