Blue Devil Realty, LLC is looking to replace a funeral home at 57 South Eagle Road in Havertown with a self-storage facility, reports  Joe Holden for philadelphia.cbslocal.com.

Sean Knapp was scheduled to present a Land Development Conceptual Plan virtually to the Haverford Township Planning Commission Thursday evening.

The plan calls for razing the existing building and redeveloping the 51,800 square foot property with a three-story, 27,000 square-foot self-storage facility.

A zoning variance allowing an industrial use on a commercial property would also be required.

Several hundred people have signed a petition opposing tearing down the funeral home to build the facility.

Sean Knapp, making the proposal for the self storage facility, asked “Why should the residents of Havertown have to drive to Clifton Heights, to Darby, to Philadelphia, to store their stuff?”

Haverford Township Commissioners Mario Oliva and Steve D’Emilio oppose the plan.

“You can see houses all down here and they want to put an industrial usage here. It just doesn’t fit,” Oliva said.

Knapp emphasized the proposal was still in the design phase and said he was eager to get input from the community.
