HAVERFORD – A new school will soon rise for the Lions of Lynnwood Elementary School in Havertown, writes Richard Ilgenfritz for Main Line Media News.

On Monday, June 3, hundreds of the school’s students along with faculty, staff, board members, and township officials gathered for a ceremonial groundbreaking.

“We’re going to be putting a state-of-the-art, energy-efficient, climate-controlled facility in this field,” Larry Feinberg, school board president, said at the ceremony.

The 700-student school is estimated to cost $25.5 million and replaces the school currently on site at 1400 Lawrence Road.

Following Feinberg’s remarks, a group of second-grade students read from an original poem on the transformation of the school.

“Congratulations Lynnwood School, today’s your day. We’re building new spaces to roar as you play,” the poem began.

A time capsule will be placed in the new building with items selected by the third and fourth grade.

District Superintendent Maureen Reusche said discussion about a new Lynnewood School began in the fall of 2016. The school is expected to open in the fall of 2021.

Construction fencing will separate the construction site from the existing school.  Work will begin over the next couple of weeks.
