Lansdowne officials and representatives from Walgreens cut the ribbon last week on a new store at the high-traffic intersection of Lansdowne and Baltimore Avenues, writes Kevin Tustin of the News of Delaware County.

Walgreens is the first occupant of the borough’s Fidelity Bank building in decades.

“This building is one of our anchor buildings downtown along with the (Lansdowne) theater, and it’s such a joy to see this lit up at night and having people come into the building,” said Mayor Tony Campuzano.

According to Tustin, the former bank was renovated by Blue Bell-based Mid-Atlantic Construction. The first floor of the building is retail space and the pharmacy, while the second floor is offices and storage.

A dozen employees have been hired in full- and part-time positions.

Despite the overhaul, the 100-year-old building maintained its original architectural style.

“You really kept the integrity of the old bank, and we really appreciate it and wish you nothing but the best,” Campuzano told James McLaughlin, development specialist of the building, at the ribbon-cutting.
