Anthony Morinelli has a retirement project going on. He’s renovating a stone home on Mill Road dating back to the late 1600s, writes Linda Stein for the Daily Times.

Morinelli, 70, retired this past June from The Shipley School as theater director and humanities teacher.

The house, which Morinelli calls Harford Hall in honor of the early Welsh settlers, had sat empty since 2017. Morinelli bought the house in August 2018 and lived in only two rooms with heat from space heaters and fireplaces in the winter.

The property near Karakung Creek was once the site of a grist mill, saw mill, and cotton mills.

A field house dating back to 1698 was built over a log cabin, followed by a 1725 addition and a third addition with larger parlor in 1740.

The Haverford Historical Society refers to the house as the Leedom-Dickinson Mansion.  It’s listed on the 1994 Historic Resources Survey of Haverford Township and is protected by the township’s Historic Preservation ordinance.

“Every inch of this house has a story,” Morinelli said.

Once the renovations are completed, Morinelli plans to open part of the house to the public.
