The Archdiocese of Philadelphia has given the green light for extending the closing date on the sale of the former Don Guanella Village in Broomall, writes Kevin Tustin for the Daily Times.

Ken Gavin, the Archdiocese’s Director of Communications, recently announced that an amendment to the agreement of sale to make June 30 the closing date had been approved.

Jenkintown-based Goodman Properties has been attempting to acquire the land and turn it into the Cardinal Crossing Town Center Development with 700,000 square feet of retail space, townhouses, an office building and a recreational space for the township.

The real-estate development management firm had originally offered to buy the property that stretches more than 200 acres nearly two years ago for over $40 million.

Goodman’s plans suffered a setback last month when the Marple Board of Commissioners stated publicly, that it did not want to approve the necessary zoning variances to accommodate the Cardinal Crossings development.

However, at that time, Goodman commented that there were still “options” on how to proceed.
