COVID-19 Takes Another 11 Delaware County Residents, Death Toll Now at 71

Delaware County lost another 11 people to the COVID-19 virus, bringing the county’s death toll to 71, according to data from the Chester County Health Department.

Of those 71 reported COVID-19 deaths, 49 occurred in a nursing home or personal care facility in the county, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health.

Thirteen people from Yeadon Borough have died, the highest number of fatalities in the county.

Eleven people from Marple Township have died from COVID-19.

Ten deaths were reported from Middletown Township.

Seven have died from Nether Providence.

Five people from Darby Borough have died from complications of COVID-19.

Five deaths have also been reported among 753 cases under investigation to which no municipality has been identified.

Three deaths have now been reported in Upper Darby and Haverford.

Newtown, Lansdowne, Norwood, Springfield and Ridley are reporting two deaths each.

One fatality is reported each in Sharon Hill, Collingdale, Ridley Park, and Clifton Heights.

The number of positive confirmed cases of coronavirus increased by 120 to 2,055 as of Thursday, April 16.

The virus is reported in 47 of the 49 municipalities, with no cases reported in Rutledge and Lower Chichester.

Nether Providence has the highest percentage of population being affected by the virus. It has 85 cases, affecting .62 percent of its 13,777 population.

Upper Darby has the most reported cases, at 201, affecting .24 percent of Upper Darby’s 82,993 population.

The majority of cases (417) are ages 50 to 59. The next largest group (313) is age 40 to 49. The third largest (287) is 30 to 39. The fourth largest (281) is 60 to 69. The fifth largest (265) is 20 to 29. The sixth largest (176) is 80 and over. The seventh largest (149) is 70 to 79.

The county had 5,656 people test negative for the virus.

Pennsylvania data

The Pennsylvania Department of Health confirmed as of midnight, April 16, that there are 1,245 additional positive cases of COVID-19, bringing the statewide total to 27,735.

All 67 counties in Pennsylvania have cases of COVID-19.

The department also reported 60 new deaths among positive cases, bringing the statewide total to 707.

It is now reporting that 365 of those deaths took place in nursing homes or personal care homes.
