Five-Year-Old Uses Birthday Gifts to Collect Donations for Springfield Fire Company

Five-year-old Springfield resident Ryan Natow donated $115 to the Springfield Fire Company.

Five-year-old Ryan Natow recently surprised the Springfield Fire Company with a selfless donation he collected as gifts for his birthday, writes Ginger Dunbar for the Daily Local News.

The young Springfield resident collected an impressive $115 in donations for the volunteer fire company during the block party organized for his March 31st birthday. Before the party, Ryan had asked all his friends to forego a gift, and instead bring him a homemade birthday card and a dollar he would donate to his local fire company in Delaware County.

His request was welcomed by his friends and family, many of whom gladly exceeded it by donating between $5 and $20.

It is not surprising that Ryan selected the fire company as the beneficiary of his fundraising, as the majority of his toys are fire trucks, commented his father Jason.

The Natow family has more than one budding philanthropist in its midst, as according to Jason, Ryan followed the example of his sister Abby, who collected and donated funds to the Springfield Library for her January birthday.

Ryan and his father visited the fire company on May 17 to deliver the donation to the fire company officers.

“We were training when Ryan stopped by with an unexpected donation,” said Battalion Chief Thomas Foran. “It was pretty cool.”
