Springfield is about to get its first taste of pop-up dining along Saxer Avenue next Wednesday at 5 PM, writes Peg DeGrassa for the Daily Times.

The event is the result of Steve Landers of Thunderbird II and Robert Napoletano of Springfield Pasta joining forces with other businesses on Saxer Avenue to offer the local community an enjoyable night of outdoor dining and socializing.

The pair approached Springfield Township officials with the idea and was met with enthusiastic support, including permission to close the street to traffic for the evening.

All of the eateries on Saxer Avenue will provide outdoor seating, with the organizers expecting around 400-500 seats with tables. Participating restaurants will mark the special occasion by offering entrees and appetizers not usually found on their regular menus.

While the event is BYOB, most establishments will provide ice and glasses for beer and wine. The evening will also include live entertainment and music.

“We want Pop-up Dining on Saxer to be about creating a fun, memorable evening in Springfield,” said Napoletano. “We want residents to come out, talk with their neighbors, share a few laughs, and simply enjoy the town where they live.”
