With students heading back to the classroom, the Teachers Teammates wanted to ensure that teachers had the necessary supplies.
Helping make that happen was a recent backpack build event at Brinker Simpson Company & LLC in Media, reports Nick Iadonisi for 6abc.
Teachers Teammate founder Raelyn Harman was on hand for the volunteer packing of school supplies.
They’ve been seeking out groups for backpack builds to stock an online store that helps teachers in 87 schools in Delaware County, said Harman, who is also executive director of Teachers Teammate.
“We want to make sure every kid has the supplies they need to succeed in school. And we don’t want teachers having to pay out of pocket,” she said.
The nonprofit operates a warehouse in Folcroft that stocks a wide range of items, including folders, crayons, notebooks, and backpacks.
Last year, it distributed over a million dollars’ worth of supplies.
Financial donations and various organizations, including Brinker Simpson, support Teachers Teammates.
“We had an abundance of supplies at one time where we didn’t know where to go with them, and we found Teachers Teammates. We filled a couple of cars, drove them over, and I fell in love with the organization there,” said Founding Partner Bob Simpson.
