Raelyn Harman has boxes of crayons, books, markers, glue sticks, and pencils taking up her house—the entry foyer, the dining room, behind her couch, the garage, writes Maria Panaritis for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

The 62-year-old Havertown woman has formed the nonprofit Teachers’ Teammates.

For a $35 annual membership, teachers can access free supplies and distribute them to students.

The hope is that the school supplies end up with the neediest home-bound students who sometimes face shortages of the most basic supplies and computer technology.

“The economic downturn has made school supplies luxury items for many families,” Harman said.

Harman’s service also means teachers no longer have to pay for the supplies out of their own paycheck.

Harman has reached out to anyone she could to get donations.

“I’m relentlessly letting businesses know, ‘If you have surplus inventory, we can move it for you,’” Harman said.

Now there’s a space problem. She needs storage.

She also needs to let overburdened Delaware County educators know that her service is available to them, even as the request for donations continues.

You can contact Harman on the Teachers’ Teammates Facebook page or at raelyn.harman@teachersteammates.org.
