Villanova’s Eric Dixon is making the most of his final college season, leading the nation in scoring with 23.6 points per game, writes Tom Haines for the Bucks County Courier Times.
The Abington High School alum could become the first Big 5 player to claim the national scoring title since Temple’s Bill Mlkvy in 1951.
His stellar season hasn’t gone unnoticed. Dixon was a unanimous selection for the Big East First Team and is among the 15 finalists for the prestigious John R. Wooden Award, given annually to the best men’s and women’s college basketball players.
The national player of the year race has been a hot topic, with Duke’s Cooper Flagg and Auburn’s Johni Broome leading the conversation. Flagg, a freshman phenom, is the likely No. 1 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, while Broome has anchored Auburn, the nation’s top-ranked team for much of the season.
Dixon, meanwhile, opted to return to Villanova for a fifth year instead of turning pro. He now sits third on the school’s all-time scoring list—just 14 points shy of second place and 36 away from breaking Kerry Kittles’ record. As the Big East Tournament looms, Dixon has a chance to cement his legacy as one of Villanova’s all-time greats.
