Eric Dixon, Fifth-Year Villanova Forward, Leads Team in Scoring, One Day Hopes to Become Museum Curator

Eric Dixon, a Willow Grove who leads Villanova basketball in scoring, hopes to become a museum curator one day.

Eric Dixon, a Willow Grove native and fifth-year forward at Villanova, is college basketball’s leading scorer, but he hopes to become a museum curator one day, writes Jeff Neiburg for the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Dixon has always been interested in history, earning his undergraduate degree in the field. He loves examining paintings, trying to identify their era and what they reveal about the mood.

“I don’t necessarily look at the art for the art,” he said.

During a recent visit to the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Dixon spent the morning with curator Matthew Affron. However he was more interested in the stories Affron told about the artworks than the paintings themselves. Dixon also took the opportunity to ask Affron about the process of creating exhibits and what he considers when putting one together.

While he still dreams of playing in the NBA, Dixon is already considering life after basketball, including the possibility of doing museum curation.

“It’s an abstract idea, but at the same time, the older I get, the more I realize there is more to life than just basketball,” he said.
