The Haverford School District has a new superintendent, Dr. Matthew C Hayes.
Dr. Hayes was appointed Superintendent of Schools by the Haverford Township Board of School Directors at its March 12 meeting.

“Dr. Hayes brings an exceptional blend of strategic leadership, student-centered innovation, and a deep commitment to educational excellence,” said Board President Dr. Latanya King. “His proven ability to improve teacher retention, enhance curriculum development, and drive measurable student achievement will be invaluable to the School District of Haverford Township.”
Dr. Hayes was a Regional Superintendent for Hillsborough County Public Schools in Florida, where he effectively improved teacher retention with innovations that included diverse hiring strategies.
His efforts reduced vacancies and strengthened workforce stability.
As regional superintendent, Dr. Hayes led the way on curriculum development and building professional learning communities.
That led to measurable student achievement gains, including double-digit proficiency improvements in core subjects.
While Principal of Roosevelt K-8 Elementary School in Philadelphia, he successfully closed achievement gaps, oversaw major facility renovations, and forged impactful partnerships with the University of Pennsylvania and the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia to expand student support services.
His dedication to school-community relationships and equity earned him district-wide recognition.
Prior to this role, he served as Assistant Principal at Manheim Township Middle School, where he led student support initiatives, improved academic performance, and contributed to special and gifted education programs, fostering a collaborative school culture.
Recognized for his ability to lead transformational change, Dr. Hayes prioritizes collaboration, accountability, and data-driven decision-making to create an environment where both students and educators thrive.

Dr. Hayes began his career as a middle and high school teacher in Philadelphia and North Carolina, where he developed a strong foundation in curriculum design, instruction, and student engagement.
His ability to drive academic excellence, build meaningful community partnerships, and develop future leaders continues to define his approach to education.
