Havertown ‘Bat Brothers’ Bring Neighborhood Outside With Bat Designs

Bat Brothers Ryan and Shane assemble a pencil bat, part of their custom-decorated wiffle bat collection in Havertown available for sale.

Two Havertown brothers have brought custom-decorated whiffle ball bats to their neighborhood, writes Matteo Iadonisi for 6abc.

Ryan and Shane have created bats that look like pencils, ice cream cones, watermelon and more.

“I had bats that had tape on them, but I didn’t really like the designs,” said Ryan.

Ryan and Shane were inspired to create their own designs using different-colored electrical tape.

They decided to start a summer business, calling themselves “The Bat Brothers,” and in the first two weeks, they’ve already sold 51 of their customized bats.

Running a business has taught them a few things, but learning business skills wasn’t their prime motivation.

“The main part of our business is to get people off of their screens and outside playing,” Ryan said.

The two boys, who have been playing baseball together for several years, want everyone to get some exercise, make new friends, and “build strong connections.”

It seems to be working, said their mom, Kathy Temple.

“All the neighborhood kids are out playing whiffle ball on our front lawn. They all have different bats now. It’s really just brought our whole neighborhood together,” she said.
