See Which Delaware County Town Is Among Best Places to Live on East Coast

Swarthmore's Town Center will welcome The Stylus Room, a casual, intimate community cocktail lounge.

Delaware County’s best-kept secret is secret no more. There’s a town here that is one of the best places to live in on the East Coast, writes Meagan Drillinger for Stacker.

Of course, there are hundreds of places that could take the prize, from New England towns full of Ivy League history to sunny shores along the coast of Florida.

Stacker compiled 2020 data from Niche, looking at population, median home value, median rent and median household income to come up with its ranked list.

Among those at the top was Swarthmore Borough, which placed eighth.

The home of Swarthmore College has a population of 6,304, a median home value of $410,100, and a median rent of $1,169. Around 78 percent of residents own their homes and 22 percent rent. Meanwhile, the median household income is $109,648.

The town has a plethora of restaurants and coffee shops, all of which are humming with student life. Crime rates in Swarthmore are also significantly under the national median.

The town’s population is highly educated, with close to half of the residents having a master’s degree or higher.
