City living was a little too close quarters for Christianne and Orhand Sevinc in this age of COVID, so they thought a larger home in Swarthmore was more in keeping with the times, writes Sandy Smith for phillymag.com.
They moved from a 1,480-square-foot row house in Pennsport to a 2,340 square-foot Dutch colonial in Swarthmore, purchasing the home for $515,000.
They originally loved their work commute from Pennsport to Center City and University City. They liked the socializing and dining on the weekend.
Then, “in March, after COVID hit, we were stuck at home,” Orhan says.
It took away the best part of living in the city while leaving behind the challenges.
Plus, a bigger place would be nice since a second child was on the way.
So they found shelter in a bigger house, but gravitated to Swarthmore, where they could keep the walkability and social life of a city neighborhood.
They confined their search to communities along the same Regional Rail line. That took them to Swarthmore, Wallingford and Media.
What emerged was a 100+-year-old Dutch Colonial just south of Swarthmore’s town center. One total makeover later, and they moved in.
