It’s 4:30 AM. Do You Know Where Your Philadelphia Eagles Fan Is?

Eagles superfan Gregg Matza will wait hours to see the Eagles play. It's worth it, he says.

It’s Oct. 1, and Eagles superfan Gregg Matza, 49, of Delaware County, is in Lot E outside Lincoln Financial Field just after 7 AM. Not able to sleep; he’s been there since 1:45 AM.

He’s waiting for the Eagles to play the Commanders, writes Matt Ryan for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Before the Eagles 8:15 PM home opener against the Vikings, Matza was at the stadium—at 4:30 AM.

“This is what I do,” he said.

Every game day, he starts with a live stream on Facebook outside the stadium.

Then he waits seven hours before kickoff when the gates open and the tailgating starts. The party will last for hours.

“He’s insane,” said tailgater Adrian Marshall. “He’s a crazy dude. He takes so much pride in himself for getting down here first thing in the morning. He’s always the first one in line.”

They finally head in at 12:15 PM. If the game ends at 4 PM, Matza won’t leave until 6.

“I love being down here,” he said.  “You got like 65,000 people and me in that stadium, going nuts.”

“I give them 110 percent, the Eagles. But this is what I do. This is it. This is Gregg Matza, going wild.”
