It’s Time for Delaware County’s Health Check Up

It’s a mixed bag when it comes to the 2023 health of Delaware County, according to a nationwide county assessment of health outcomes by the University of Wisconsin.

Residents at the moment are experiencing health ranking in the lower middle range among Pennsylvania counties, somewhere between 25 and 50 percent on a 0 to 100 percent scale from least to most healthy.

The good news is there’s a lot we can do to get healthier.  Delaware County ranks among the healthiest counties in Pennsylvania for health factors, which are those health behavior opportunities to improve the length and quality of life for residents.

On that scale, Delaware County comes in between 75 percent and 100 percent.

About 12 percent of us are in poor or fair health, similar to the United States and one percent below the state.

Delaware County residents experiencing an average of 3.1 days of poor physical health so far, statistically the same as Pennsylvania and the U.S.

We are having more poor mental health days.  The county averages 5.1 days so far in 2023, compared to 4.8 days in Pennsylvania and 4.4 days in the United States.
