Jeffrey Rotwitt, President of Sun Center Studios in Aston, is planning to bring a theme  park to Delco that would be the Mid-Atlantic’s answer to Disney World, writes Vinny Vella for the Philadelphia Inquirer.

The 2019 plan includes a sprawling hotel and theme park by Sun Studios, which helped create movies like Creed and Glass.

Rotwitt’s vision is a hotel with 175 rooms, outdoor event space, and an indoor theme park, all attached to the movie studio. The expansion is expected to create 6,000 new jobs.

This is not a new proposal. Rotwitt has been attempting to do this for more than five years by applying annually for state grant money through the Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program.

His fifth application was filed at the start of this year. This time, he is confident he will receive the requested $7.5 million to help him secure the remaining $187 needed to complete the expansion.

“We’re very sanguine that, this calendar year, we’ll get the ball in the end zone,” said Rotwitt. “But that’s by no means a guarantee.”

He said that he has already begun lining up foreign investors, including from China and the Middle East.
