Sun Center Studios is hoping to bring a Universal Studios-style theme park estimated at $200 million to Aston, writes Natalie Kostelni for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

Sun Center Studios, which has hosted the filming of Creed and a number of other movies, opened eight years ago as Pennsylvania’s first dedicated film and television production studio. For the next phase, the studio is proposing an indoor, themed tourist attraction and special events facility that would also have an outdoor component with retail, dining, live entertainment, and a water fountain show.

The plans also include a 175-room hotel and underground parking.

The indoor facility will total 90,000 square feet, according to the application Sun Center Studios filed with the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development. The main theme of the park will be the studio experience focusing around movies and television.

The company is asking the Pennsylvania’s Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program for $7.5 million in taxpayer-backed funds to support the project. The funds would be used to finance the construction of the public entertainment component of the project.

The plan is to construct the theme park on roughly 25 acres next to Sun Center Studios at 250 North Commerce Drive.
