Delaware County is joining with communities across the nation to celebrate America’s 250th Anniversary on July 4, 2026, so it is encouraging county residents to be part of the planning process through the work of the America250PADelco Committee.

Delaware County officials have formed the committee to lead the planning process, which will include events from now to the end of 2026, with particular emphasis on the county’s July 4, 2026, semi-quincentennial celebration.

Last summer, Delaware County Council approved a Resolution supporting the Pennsylvania Commission for the United States semi-quincentennial (America250PA).

Pennsylvania and Philadelphia play a central role in the upcoming celebration as the place where the  Declaration of Independence was signed on July 4, 1776, and the U.S. Constitution was approved.

Delaware County was the site of many critical battles in the Revolutionary War and it is where William Penn first landed in Pennsylvania in 1682. The county is widely celebrated as “Where Pennsylvania Began.”

The county’s America250PADelco Committee will work with national, state, and local leaders and volunteers to plan the celebration.

The committee will work to promote Delaware County and its history to its residents and to all of the visitors who will be coming to the area in the coming years.

The hope is to provide local experiences that will ignite imaginations, tell diverse stories, inspire service and highlight the founding of America 250 years ago through Delaware County’s unique lens.

All Delaware County residents, business owners, and workers are encouraged to become involved with the planning process and/or attend some of the events being planned.

Delaware County’s America250PADelco Committee will meet every month, and sub-committees meet monthly or as needed. All levels of involvement are welcome.
