Haverford Township is promising a spectacular drone show free to the public in August, similar to those seen at large sporting events, writes Kathleen E. Carey for the Daily Times.
The Illumination 250 Festival and Drone Show is a noon to 9 PM family-friendly event on Aug. 29 at the Haverford High School football stadium, 200 Mill Road in Havertown.
There will be live music, food trucks, inflatables, historical characters, and a craft village. The day culminates with the choreographed drone show in the evening.
“It’s really quite an ordeal,” Tom Kelly of Kelly Music for Life said. “We’re excited about it. We’ve been working on it since 2024.”
The event has been organized by a coalition of Haverford’s nonprofits, organizations, community members, and government representatives.
Visit Delco is the presenting sponsor, and other sponsors are being sought. The drone show costs $60,000 to produce, and the hope is people will make donations at the gate, Kelly said.
The coalition is looking at three different companies with drone show experience. A final selection will be made in the next month.
The show will be choreographed with an America 250 theme, accompanied by patriotic music.
