Data from the Pennsylvania Lottery suggests that Delaware and Chester counties are two of the unluckiest counties in the state, writes Sara Satullo for the Easton Express-Times.

With multimillion-dollar payouts, everyone dreams of winning the lottery, and each year the Pennsylvania Lottery publishes a list of the lucky winners by county. But for residents of Delaware and Chester counties, the list makes for some grim reading.

In terms of money won per dollar spent, Delaware County (at $0.60) and Chester County (at $0.59) rank 62nd and 65th, respectively, out of the 67 counties.

During the fiscal year 2016-2017, the Pennsylvania Lottery paid out a total of $2.6 billion in prizes, which paid out on average almost 65 cents of every dollar spent.

That means that Delaware and Chester counties were among the unluckiest.

On the other hand, it also means that more of each county’s money was spent helping the good causes the lottery supports each year.

Proceeds from the lottery are used to benefit older Pennsylvanians, on programs such as property tax and rent rebates and lower cost prescriptions.
