Ten Sonic Drive-In locations have permanently closed throughout Pennsylvania, including a restaurant at 2610 E. McDade Blvd. in Holmes, writes Laura Smythe for Philadelphia Business Journal.

The restaurants closed Dec. 16, according to Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notifications filed with the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry by franchisee Donald Welsh.

A total of 240 workers were let go statewide in permanent severances. Each closed site employed between 13 and 33 workers.

The Holmes restaurant affected 21 workers.

In addition to the store in Holmes, one restaurant in Philadelphia, three in Montgomery County and one in Chester County closed.

Outside the region, three restaurants closed in Lancaster County, and one closed in Berks County.

There was an active effort to find a buyer to prevent or postpone the shutdowns, according to the state filing.

“Despite its efforts to secure a buyer, the company was unable to do so,” the documents continue. “The company negotiated vigorously with Sonic to avoid closure, but those efforts also failed, leaving the company with no option to continue operating a Sonic restaurant as it was no longer permitted to use the Sonic trademark.” Read more about the Sonic restaurant shutdowns at the Philadelphia Business Journal.
