Pet Valu Inc. headquartered in Wayne, is closing its U.S. stores and warehouses, another victim of COVID-19, writes Ryan Sharrow for Philadelphia Business Journal.

The pet food and supply company has 358 stores in the Northeast and Midwest, with 45 in the Philadelphia area.

The company was found more than 25 years ago, but has not been able to stay afloat during the pandemic.

“The company’s stores have been significantly impacted by the protracted Covid-19-related restrictions,” said Jamie Gould, Pet Valu’s recently appointed chief restructuring officer, in a statement. “After a thorough review of all available alternatives, we made the difficult but necessary decision to commence this orderly wind down.”

Pet Valu U.S. is owned by Roark Capital, a private equity firm in Atlanta. A separate company, Pet Valu Canada, based in Ontario, is not impacted by the U.S. shut down, even though it provides contracts for some services to Pet Value U.S.

Regionally, Pet Valu has locations in Ardmore West Shopping Center, Huntington Valley Shopping Center, Whitman Plaza in South Philadelphia and Eagle Plaza in Vorhees, New Jersey.

Its headquarters are located at 489 Devon Park Drive in the Meadows Office Complex.
