Harvest Seasonal Grill & Wine Bar in Radnor Closes After Pandemic Saps Customers

The Radnor location of Harvest Seasonal Grill & Wine Bar has permanently closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, writes Laura Smythe for Philadelphia Business Journal.

The location at 555 E. Lancaster got most of its revenue and customers from office workers, who have not been around.  About 90 percent of traffic came from the corporate community.

Having no corporate events, meetings or celebrations, which in some months generated 45 percent of the restaurant’s business,  also had an impact.

“As we saw the Covid restrictions apply and people head to work-from-home, doing Zoom meetings and no longer coming to the office, and saw our parking lot really emptied out, we rapidly saw our sales decline down to nothing,” said owner Dave Magrogan.

Other Harvest locations, including Glen Mills and Newtown, are near high-end lifestyle centers,  and convenient to local neighborhoods. Patrons visit two or three times a week, combining a meal with shopping.

Magrogan said it didn’t make sense to invest in the Radnor store for one to three years in the current environment, since its other suburban locations are stronger.

Across all locations, business ranges from 25 to 75 percent from the prior year.
