An urban winery has come to Essington at 301 Wanamaker Ave, writes Peg DeGrassa for the Daily Times.
John Robert Cellars Wine Bar and Tasting Room has award-winning wines and is happy to teach you all about them.
They opened April 28, a realized dream of John Irving of Gulph Mills and Robert Goodwin of Pitman, N.J.
Grapes are crushed and wine-making carried out on site.
The urban winery offers handcrafted wines from around the world—California, South Africa, Chile, Argentina and elsewhere.
“We’re more than just a wine bar, although our doors are open for people to stop in after work to destress over a glass of wine or get together with a friend to talk over wine,” Goodwin stated. “We hope John Robert Cellars will be more of ‘an experience.’ We want people to have fun, but also to enjoy learning about the wine made right in their neighborhood.”
Wine making was a hobby from 2005 to 2017. In 2017, the friends decided to “go professional” with their hobby.
They have an inventory of 60,000 bottles with a goal of handcrafting at least 30 to 35,000 bottles a year.
