Delaware County Is Sixth Lowest for Regional Unemployment in June

The unemployment rate in Delaware County was 13.6 percent in June, placing it in the middle of the pack based on the unemployment rates within the 11 counties that make up the Philadelphia metropolitan area, according to the data recently released by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

This is higher than the national average, which was  11.2 percent for the same month.

Delaware County recorded a 9.5 percent increase in unemployment compared to June 2019, when the jobless rate was 4.1 percent.

When compared to June 2018, when the unemployment rate was 4.3 percent, the difference is marginally lower, at 9.3 percent.

Among the four metropolitan divisions that make up the Philadelphia-Camden-Wilmington metropolitan area, the unemployment rate was highest in the Philadelphia division, with a rate of 16.5 percent.

Delaware County is in the Philadelphia division.

Nationally, the unemployment rate increased by 7.4 percent compared to 2019, and 7.0 percent compared to 2018.

Unemployment rates were higher in June 2020 than for June 2019 as well as for June 2018 for all of the counties that make up the Philadelphia metropolitan area.
