Pennsylvania’s Unemployment Recovery Second Quickest in Nation
Pennsylvania’s workforce is experiencing the second quickest recovery in unemployment claims in the nation, according to a newly released WalletHub report.
To determine which states are recovering from COVID-19 the fastest, WalletHub compared the 50 states and the District of Columbia across three metrics based on changes in unemployment claims over three different periods.
The Keystone State saw a Change in Unemployment Claims (Latest Week vs Last Year) of 159.37 percent, or 50,702 the week of June 8, 2020, compared to 19,548 the week of June 10, 2019. This places it in third place nationwide for this category.
Pennsylvania recorded the eighth quickest recovery in Change in Unemployment Claims (Latest Week vs Start of 2020) at 85.74 percent, or 50,702 the week of June 8, 2020, compared to 27,298 the week of January 1, 2020.
Finally, the Change in Unemployment Claims (Since Start of COVID-19 Crisis vs. Last Year) was at 1,266.39 percent. Pennsylvania recorded 2,063,214 unemployment claims between the week of March 16, 2020, and the week of June 8, 2020, compared to 162,921 between the week of March 18, 2019, and the week of June 10, 2019.
This puts it in 13th place in this category.
