Media is the best place in the state to retire, according to SmartAsset, a website that analyzed all the cities and towns in Pennsylvania, writes Linda Stein for the Daily Times.

“I’m retiring here,” said Mayor Robert McMahon when he heard the news.  “There are many reasons (Media was chosen). We are safe. It’s a friendly environment. We have a restaurant for everybody. We have a theater. It’s walkable.”

Rose Tree Park is nearby.  There are veteran parades and the Pennsylvania Veterans Museum. The borough and county seat is also host to the Delaware County Institute of Science and the county courthouse.

There are nearby retirement communities and desirable real estate.

It’s become famous for its “Dining Under the Stars” event.

Steve Byrne, executive director of Destination Delco, said they heard from a family coming from the Boston area to look at Haverford College.

“They planned their trip around ‘Dining Under the Stars,’” Byrne said.

In ranking towns SmartAsset compiled data on three retiree factors: state and local tax rates, including income and sales tax; number of doctors’ offices, recreation centers and retirement centers per thousand residents; the percentage of seniors as the total population.
