Asher Raphael, the co-CEO of Chester-based Power Home Remodeling, is focused on hiring more women and expanding the growth of those already working at the company for 2019, writes Michaela Althouse for Philadelphia magazine.
Two years ago, the company launched a women’s initiative to help battle the stigma that the home improvement industry is not woman-friendly. According to Raphael, this is making huge strides, but there is still a long way to go.
Last year, Power’s applicant pool was 67 percent men and only 33 percent women.
“This discrepancy is why increasing female hires is a top priority on my 2019 list,” Raphael said.
To do this, the company is relying heavily on referrals. Raphael said that Power has found its own people are its best advocates. When they are thriving in the workplace, they want their friends to join them.
“That’s why we offer our employees a $2,000 bonus for every referral hire,” said Raphael.
This year, Power is offering an additional $1,000 for referrals of women.
“With this additional incentive and examples of thriving women throughout the business, I’m confident we will meet our 2019 hiring goals,” said Raphael.
