Axalta of Glen Mills Releases New Automotive Color of the Year

By

Axalta Coating Systems of Glen Mills has released the new premium color StarLite, its modern and technology-savvy Automotive Color of the Year for 2018.

StarLite has been created using the Axalta ChromaDyne color coats line developed for automotive OEMs. It is a light and reflective hue that uses the Delaware County company’s tri-coat process combined with synthetic pearl flakes to create an eye-catching effect.

“There will never be a better year to highlight StarLite as an automotive pacesetter,” said Nancy Lockhart, Axalta’s Global Color Marketing Manager. “The rise in popularity of pearlescent pigments that reflect light underscores StarLite’s role as a modern, luxury color.”

The decision to go with the variation on white for its Color of the Year follows Axalta’s recently released 2017 Global Automotive Color Popularity Report. It found white is the No. 1 color choice worldwide for the seventh consecutive year.

Globally, close to 40 percent of buyers chose white last year, two percent more than in 2016.

“Highly reflective colors can contribute to the functionality of driverless vehicles because lighter colors, like StarLite, are more easily detectable by LIDAR systems,” said Lockhart.
