Delaware County Council congratulates the clients and staff members from the Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired in Chester on its 75th anniversary of helping people with visual impairments achieve independence.

Shortly after having corrective eye surgery, Delaware County Council Chairman Mario J. Civera Jr. commended the Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired (CBVI) on 75 years of helping people with visual impairment lead independent lives.

“In Delaware County, we have some excellent agencies that help people who face challenges in their day-to-day lives, challenges that some of us can’t imagine facing,” Civera said. “The Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired in Chester is a remarkable organization that is dedicated to helping people of all ages who are blind or visually impaired. We really appreciate the work they do.”

The Center was started by the Chester Lions Club, and today, serves 2,000 clients with a variety of services with the main goal being independence.

Its mission is to “help individuals in the Delaware Valley prevent, prepare for, and adapt to vision loss in order to achieve independence.”

“Many of us take our vision for granted, but the Center for the Blind understands that people lose their sight due to many circumstances, from genetic conditions to diseases, from accidents to age-related vision loss,” Civera said.

Council recently recognized the Center’s 75th anniversary.

CBVI’s services include employment training, in-home rehabilitation, casework management, transportation, computer training, chore assistance, and even programs for children.

Civera presented a Council resolution to Kendal Parliament, CBVI Communications Director, who introduced dozens of clients and staff members from CBVI.
