With evidence-based therapies and the most cutting-edge equipment on the market, the Crozer-Keystone Regional Cancer Center at Broomall is setting a new standard for the care of cancer patients.

“The new standard in cancer care is patient-focused,” said Deborah Markiewicz, M.D. “In our new center, the different specialists in cancer care – surgical oncologists, radiation oncologists, medical oncologists – all have their offices within a stone’s throw of each other.

“We’re a multi-disciplinary center, with patients who visit often needing surgery, radiation, chemo therapy, or other systemic therapies.”

Rachelle Lanciano, M.D., the chair of radiation oncology at Delaware County Memorial Hospital, says patients appreciate the luxury of receiving a variety of services in one location.

“They love that they can get their services – be it mammograms or MRIs – in one center,” said Lanciano.

“I came here for radiation treatments for breast cancer,” said Mimi Wingate, “and it was the best decision I ever made. The team is terrific. From the time you walk in the door, they make you feel comfortable. Everyone is so friendly.”

In terms of equipment, Crozer-Keystone has the latest version of the TrueBeam Linear Accelerator in its arsenal.

“This is a special treatment machine,” said Markiewicz. “One of the therapies that’s unique to our particular machine is called RapidArc Therapy. This allows very sophisticated shaping of the radiation beam, so that we hit the cancer and avoid the normal tissues.”
