More than a year after Crozer Health’s collapse left thousands of Delaware County residents scrambling for care, a new provider is moving in to fill the gap.
Trinity Health Mid-Atlantic Medical Group is investing $3 million to open a primary care office in Springfield, a bet that there’s plenty of demand in a market still reeling from the loss of its largest health care provider, writes John George for the Philadelphia Business Journal.
The practice is set to open next month at 905 W. Sproul Road, taking over 5,200 square feet in a two-story, 32,000-square-foot office building, a space formerly occupied by a bank branch.
According to Amy Gravelle, the medical group’s vice president of operations, the $3 million covers the lease, renovations and startup costs.
The timing is no coincidence. Crozer Health shut down its last remaining hospitals and outpatient care campus a little over a year ago, after parent company Prospect Medical Holdings filed for bankruptcy.
“With Crozer closing last year, the market really got flooded with their patients,” said Gravelle. “They were looking for primary care.”
Trinity isn’t just absorbing those patients; it’s hiring the people who used to treat them.
The Springfield office will be staffed by four former Crozer Health employees: Dr. Namir Kosa, Dr. Shormeh Otsin, physician assistant Jesse Coale, and nurse practitioner Patti Ferro.
Beyond primary care, the site will also offer general, breast, and vascular surgery services.
Gravelle said Trinity sees the expansion as a way to meet rising patient demand while connecting more residents to the full continuum of care at Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital in Darby.
