Town Hall April 30 Looks at Proposed Delco EMS Authority

A proposed Delco Emergency Services Authority for six central Delaware County communities would replace EMS services previously offered by Crozer Health.

A town hall on April 30 will address the creation of the Delco Emergency Services Authority for six central Delaware County municipalities.

The authority would provide emergency services to the 40,000 residents of Swarthmore, Rose Valley, Media, Rutledge, Nether Providence, and Upper Providence townships, writes Pete Bannan for the Daily Times.

The public meeting takes place at 7 PM at Strath Haven Middle School.

The town hall will introduce the authority to residents and describe how it would work.

A residential unit, a townhouse, a single-family dwelling, or an apartment would pay the same annual fee, with the bill for apartment houses going to the property owner.

The annual fee has been estimated at below $100, but the fee hasn’t been finalized.

Swarthmore Mayor Conlen Booth said the authority would make sure EMS services are governed by local residents, “not some CEO in California,” referencing Prospect Medical Holdings, the Los Angeles owner of the bankrupt Crozer Health.

The next step after the town hall will be to finalize a budget. In midsummer, public hearings will take place. All six municipalities would have to approve the agreement and appoint members before the authority could exist.
