Nearly 300 people from Delaware County didn’t just watch Kevin McGonigle’s moment from home; they showed up for it. 

Fans, family, and friends made the trip to Baltimore recently to celebrate the Detroit Tigers rookie and Aldan native, turning Pickles Pub into an unofficial Delco outpost for the night.  

The gathering, reported by Siobhan McGirl for NBC10 Philadelphia, was a testament to how deeply McGonigle’s story has resonated back home. 

And it’s easy to understand why. A product of Monsignor Bonner & Archbishop Prendergast Catholic High School, McGonigle has risen to become one of baseball’s top young stars, earning American League Rookie of the Month honors in April.  

For a tight-knit community that takes pride in its own, watching a hometown kid thrive at the highest level of the sport has been something special. 

The celebration was organized by his mother, Tracy McGonigle, who, in a moment that says everything about this family, made the trip just one day after undergoing an emergency appendectomy.  

She wasn’t going to miss it, and the reunion with her son was, by all accounts, emotional. 

His sister Keri captured the feeling simply and perfectly. 

“Since we were little, this has been his dream. He’s only talked about playing baseball, and he just shows me as big sister that dreams do come true,” she said. 

McGonigle himself didn’t take any of it for granted. 

“It’s just a dream come true, you know? Going through high school, Bonner and Prendie, always having this dream of playing at the highest level, and all the work and time and all the friends and family that helped me get to this point, I really can’t thank them enough,” he said.
