Wilson’s Secret Sauce on Township Line Road in Upper Darby will be replaced with an all-day breakfast and brunch restaurant, The Wiz Cafe, writes Victor Firillo for Philadelphia Magazine.
The barbecue restaurant is closing soon, a year after Gordon Ramsay showed up in a new reality show, Gordon Ramsey’s Secret Service, to give the restaurant a makeover.
Wilson’s owner, Steve Wilson, and Thomas Montgomery Jr., owner of The Wiz Cafe, plan to settle in mid-April. The new restaurant hopes to open by Mother’s Day in May.
“You have a ton of vehicles coming down Township Line Road,” Montgomery said. “You have all the doctors and nurses at Lankenau Hospital, which is seven minutes away. And college kids love the Wiz. You have St. Joe’s, you have Villanova, and the other schools nearby. Plus, I’m going to have a barista. It’s really hard to get proper coffee in this area.”
The Wiz Café opened first in July 2020 at 3622 North 17th Street in North Philadelphia.
It offers shrimp and grits, chicken and waffles, and creatively combined sandwiches, like fried chicken, beef bacon, and jerk chicken sausage resting between Fruity Pepples-covered slices of French toast.
