What’s up with a recent chef Gordon Ramsay appearance near Wilson’s Secret Sauce in Upper Darby and why was the barbecue restaurant closed to the public for a week?

Local residents spotted Ramsay of Kitchen Nightmares fame walking down a street just steps from the restaurant.

There was also a busy collection of trucks and equipment outside Wilson’s, indicating a television crew nearby, writes Victor Fiorillo for Philadelphia Magazine.

The restaurant reopened Friday. The dining room had been made cozier. The menu shifted from 70-plus items to 13.

So far, the restaurant isn’t talking, It’s not saying if Ramsay worked with the restaurant or if it will show up in a future Kitchen Nightmares or another Gordon Ramsay program.

But the smaller menu and the altered dining room have the hallmarks of a Kitchen Nightmare episode, Fiorillo writes.

“In other words, I wouldn’t bet $1 billion that Gordon Ramsay just transformed Wilson’s Secret Sauce. But I’d certainly bet $1,000,” Fiorillo wrote.

Kitchen Nightmares aired on Fox from 2007 to 2014, came back in 2023, then debuted a ninth season on Jan. 7, 2025.
