Penncrest High School students in the Rose Tree Media School District are hosting their second annual community Carnival for a Cure this Saturday.
The March 7 family-friendly carnival runs from 10 AM to 2 PM in the Penncrest High School Gym at 134 Barren Road in Media.
The event is free and open to the public.
Carnival for a Cure will feature carnival games, food, live music, raffles, food trucks, vendors, and bounce houses.
All proceeds raised at the event will benefit the Foundation Fighting Blindness Philadelphia Chapter. The organization is dedicated to funding research and treatments for vision loss and blindness.
A student-run club at Penncrest High School, 4 the Vision, organizes the annual event in the hope that it can educate the community with fun, inclusive events. It has more than 250 student volunteers committed to spreading awareness about visual impairments and supporting vision research.
“Our mission with 4 the Vision is to combine community, creativity, and compassion,” said Parker Caruso, president of 4 the Vision. “Carnival for a Cure allows us to raise awareness about vision health while giving families a fun place to gather and support a cause extremely close to me and my family.”
“The Penncrest community has been so supportive with helping 4 the Vision thrive. We can’t thank them enough.”
Community partners that help make the carnival possible include Wayside Market in Media, Ke Ai Cafe featuring baked goods and desserts, Taff Treats candy store in Brookhaven, the Kids Kreate Art Program, Travelin’ Tom’s Coffee Truck, B2R Bach to Rock music school, Dos Gringos Mexican Kitchen, Coals Creek Baking, and the Delaware County Intermediate Unit.
Last year’s inaugural carnival drew strong community support and raised over $9,000.
Organizers hope to grow the event even larger this year by welcoming students, families, and local residents from across the area.
Admission to the carnival is free, and all ages are welcome.
Donations and raffle participation will help further the mission of the Foundation Fighting Blindness and support ongoing research efforts.
Foundation Fighting Blindness
The Foundation Fighting Blindness was established in 1971 by individuals determined to find treatments and cures for blinding diseases.
Its mission is to support research for prevention, treatments, and cures for people affected by blinding diseases, including age-related macular degeneration, retinitis pigmentosa, Usher syndrome, Stargardt disease, Leber congenital amaurosis, and more.
These conditions affect more than 10 million Americans and millions more worldwide.
The Foundation has raised $996 million over its 55 years and annually funds more than 113 research grants.
